Web Video Crossroads
New OCMMA Special Interest Group!Focus: Video on the Web and Mobile Devices The Web Video Crossroads is for web designers and programmers to enhance their knowledge of getting quality media into their projects and for video pros to understand how to use the Web to their advantage. It is particularly for all who are interested in that business "sweet spot" where the worlds of Web and Video come together. Under the leadership of Mike McGready, Owner and Creative Director of Album of Life video studios, this group will look at ways to take advantage of Internet opportunities for our own and clients' websites, as well as the abundance of social networking sites. Topics will include software and hardware tools and techniques to create and distribute video messages through the web and mobile devices, and how to profit while doing so. The Web – Video Crossroads is both an Adobe User Group (AUG) and an OCMMA Special Interest Group (SIG). That's quite a pedigree! The Web Video Crossroads SIG meets on the second Thursday of every month. The fee for non-OCMMA members is $10, or $5 for students (New Horizon students are admitted free). Time: 6:30 Snacks, Networking and Favorite "Virals"; 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Meeting

Live Streaming Basics for Fun and Profit!
Helicopter Video Demo Postponed Until October Meeting
Web - Video Crossroads - Thursday, September 9
Guest Presenter

Webcasting via "live streaming" sounds like an expensive technical wonder but Jason Tucker is going to show us all the nuts and bolts to make it happen simply yet impressively on a budget. You will remember Jason from his dynamic presentation on podcasting with teammate, Megan Enloe, at last month's WebVid meeting. Jason will be covering all the questions needing to be answered in preparation for "live-streaming" our rc-helicopter video demo next month. Here's a partial list:
- Do I need a specially configured computer or will any of them work?
- Do I need special software?
- How fast of an internet connection must I use?
- Is a 3G wireless card fast enough?
- Must I use a webcam or can I feed my video into the computer via a firewire or USB cable from digital camera, etc.)
- If the source of your video feed is analog, will a digital converter be needed?
- Do I need a special microphone?
- Can live-streaming be done where there is no plug-in electric power?
- Will I need to subscribe to a video streaming service such as ustream.tv?
- Is a steaming service expensive?
- How do I get the link to send to people so they can watch?
- Can people who are watching "chat" with each other?

Podcasting Basics and Beyond
Web - Video Crossroads - Thursday, August 12

Podcasting has been around for a while now so you may think of it as old news. However, podcasting has continued to grow and has established itself as a great way to distribute ideas, information and entertainment while earning the respect of advertisers.
Guest Presenters
Our guest presenters have been in the podcasting space since the beginning as shown in the photo to the right.
Megan Enloe, current Organizer of the Orange County Podcasting Meetup Group, has a passion for podcasting that led her to create PodcastJunky.com. She subscribes to over 150 podcasts. Where Megan represents the "heart" of the subject, Jason Tucker (also involved in the OC Podcasting Meetup), is one of her "go-to-guys" for the techy aspects of podcasting. He describes himself as, "a Systems Administrator, Podcaster, Wordpress hacker and Social media guy." Follow his "tweets" at http://twitter.com/jasontucker. Jason will do live demos of the web tools used for podcasting and Megan will talk about podcasting the companion, entertainer and business tool. They promise an informal session with lots of time for Q & A. Learn how to have fun, make your mark on the world and perhaps even make a buck with podcasting.
